Heritage on the Vine: Pomeroy Cellars Cultivates New Traditions on Historic Land

Nestled down a beautiful, winding road alongside the Lewis River in Yacolt, Pomeroy Cellars represents more than a century of dedication to the land. Adjoining the Pomeroy Living History Farm, the Cellars is an award-winning winery, focused on bringing the community together to enjoy excellent wines, events, and live music. Their family-friendly atmosphere, expert viticulture, and creative winemaking has allowed them to grow and flourish while continuing to honor their roots.

The winery's story begins in 1910 when E.C. Pomeroy got off a train, picked up a newspaper, and found this plot to build a home and farm. Now, six generations of Pomeroys have lived and worked on this land. Today, Tommy Miller runs the winery alongside his wife Megan, a fifth-generation Pomeroy and Executive Director of the Pomeroy Living History Farm, and winemaker Dan Brink, also a fifth-generation family member.

The winery produces both estate wines from their on-site vineyard as well as grapes sourced from eastern Washington where the climate lends itself to bold, hearty reds. Their wines have earned recognition, with several double platinum, platinum, double gold medals, and gold medals.

Pomeroy Cellars distinguishes itself through community focus. “Our core focus here at Pomeroy Cellars is creating and building a relational place for the community to engage," Miller says. This philosophy extends to their family-friendly approach to business, their programming of live music by emerging artists and craft workshops, and their participation in fundraising events for local nonprofits.

As Miller puts it, the winery is “a passion project," one that builds lasting memories across generations while supporting the local community.
