What do your favorite cozy hat and the best fertilizer in the world have in common? Alpacas, of course! Nestled just east of WSU Vancouver in Mount Vista, G. Tribe Alpacas Farm is home to 35 of these adorable and sustainable herd animals. Greg and Melissa Glascock, the owners of G. Tribe, have transformed their 12-acre, sixth-generation family farmland into an eco-friendly alpaca haven, complete with farm tours and a breeding program.
But G. Tribe Alpacas isn't just about cute animals; it's also a sustainable fiber business. The alpacas are sheared once a year, and their soft fleece is transformed into yarn. Melissa then handcrafts that yarn into beautiful hats, scarves, and other items.
Alpacas are gentle on the land and their manure is a natural fertilizer, but the sustainability doesn’t stop there. Anything made with alpaca fleece is completely compostable! This zero-waste fashion is the opposite of the landfill-filling clothes we’ve grown used to.
G. Tribe's breeding program focuses not just on fiber quality, but on demeanor as well. When you go to visit, you’ll quickly see the alpacas’ gentle nature. They are natural empaths, and G. Tribe’s animals have often been tapped as the perfect animals for therapy programs (you may even get to see them at PDX in the near future!)
The Glascocks are dedicated to raising healthy, happy alpacas with high-quality fleece, ensuring a future for their farm and contributing to the long term sustainability of the alpaca fiber industry overall. This is a Clark County hidden gem!
